Carol’s love for acting began in junior high school. Through her school years, Carol starred in numerous plays and won several awards and scholarships for her acting work. She has acted on such TV shows as ER, Strong Medicine and Cover Me and starred opposite Stephen Baldwin and Tom Sizemore in the independent feature The Genius Club, now out on DVD. Abney has appeared in several short films which have screened at film festivals the world over.

On stage, she has appeared in L.A.’s Quantum Theatre Company’s production of The Pink Factor, the San Diego Repertory Theatre’s original production of The Doors musical Celebration of the Lizard, San Diego’s Fritz Theatre productions of Escape From Happiness, Abducting Ariana (a Dario Fo adaptation), independent productions of A Streetcar Named Desire and Tartuffe, among many others.

Her portrayal of the tortured, yet strong, Fatima in the Fritz Theatre’s Unmerciful Good Fortune won her a San Diego Best Performance Patte Award from KPBS radio. "Dynamic," "intense," "riveting," "versatile" and "a strong presence" have been only some of words used by the Press to describe her acting.

Carol has also performed in numerous original plays and staged readings of new works with a variety of companies. She has lent her talents as both a dancer and an actress in commercials, including spots for GE Financial, Zocor, DePuy Orthopedics, the Department of Defense and IBM, to name a few.

Ms. Abney created and co-produced her own dance-theatre works in collaboration with various dance and theatre companies in Southern California, as well as created choreography for existing theatre pieces. Her innovative choreography has been seen from street-theatre collaborations to traditional dance concerts to off-Broadway-type theatre productions.

Her choreographic work for The Fever, written by Wallace Shawn and produced by the Fritz Theater, was named a critics pick by all the San Diego press and was named one of the top 10 shows of that year. The San Diego Union Tribune stated that "A spirit of adventure clings to the dances (of) Carol Abney…"

As a dancer, Carol has performed with a variety of modern dance companies in Los Angeles, San Diego, The Netherlands and Peru, and has appeared in numerous independent dance projects, including music videos, televised award ceremonies and stage shows.

Carol was born in Peru to a Peruvian mother and American father, grew up in San Diego, CA. and has two brothers. Her mother is a psychologist and Holistic Health practitioner and her father is a computer consultant. Carol grew up with sports. She played softball, ran track (loved the hurdles) and played soccer for 10 years. As a child, she wanted to be a pro soccer player, but at the time women’s leagues didn’t exist. When she was 14, she played on a boys’ team for one season because she craved that extra challenge. In Junior High, Carol took a photography class and thus began her love for taking pictures, which continues to this day.

When she was 19, she returned to Peru for a year and studied Sociology at Universidad La Catolica in Lima. After returning to the U.S., she decided she was not nearly done exploring the world and spent two years in Sweden through the University of California Education Abroad Program, studying photography and film theory at the University of Lund. Carol then lived in the Netherlands for nearly six years.

Ms. Abney holds a BA in Theatre from the University of California at San Diego and an MA in Dance from the Rotterdam Dance Academy in the Netherlands. Having lived in Sweden, the Netherlands and Peru, Ms. Abney is multi-lingual. When not acting, Carol keeps herself busy by teaching Pilates.
